Editor’s Rating:

In a few words

Collect and own all the locations from the all-time favorite Adult Swim TV show. The Rick and Morty and the Smiths will take you through an exhilarating ride across the multiverse.

Overview

The game play of Rick and Morty Monopoly is exactly the same as that of classic Monopoly – the only difference is that instead of dealing with traditional properties and money, you now get to deal in the currency of the Rick and Morty multiverse, featuring everyone’s well-loved icons and characters!

Buy different locations from the popular TV show, complete with funny quotes. The Chance and Community Chest cards are also appropriately themed and replaced with InterDimensional TV and Get Schwifty, making this a hit for anyone who loves Rick and Morty.

This edition is suitable for 2-6 players and is set at ages 17+, perfect for an adults’ game night or a fun time with the older kids.

What’s Included

A standard set of Monopoly Rick and Morty edition includes the following:

  • 6 collectible tokens: Council of Ricks Badge, Meeseeks Box, Oportal Gun, Plumbus, Rick’s Car, and Snuffles’ Helmet
  • Custom Flooble Cranks to replace the traditional Houses
  • Gooble Boxes to replace the traditional Hotels
  • Custom Flurbo currency

Choose one of the 6 unique player tokens to move as your piece around the board. You will also find specially named Chance and Community Chest cards that really launch you into the world of Rick and Morty.

Pros

If you are familiar with the TV show, get ready to have a good laugh when you open this box of Monopoly. Use schmeckles as a currency to buy the familiar locations. The least valuable pieces of money are plastered with Jerry’s unenthusiastic face instead of the usual Monopoly mascot!

Rick and Morty Monopoly definitely brings a different flavor to traditional Monopoly. Although the gameplay is completely the same except that everything is themed, buying all the well-known locations of the Rick and Morty multiverse brings a fresh breath of air into the classic game. Instead of placing Houses and Hotels on your properties, find Flooble Cranks and Gooble Boxes to claim your lands.

While playing the game, keep an eye out for references and quotes you may find on your cards. Can you find all the inside jokes on the descriptions? That said, this Monopoly edition is definitely not for someone who is not familiar with Rick and Morty, as those Easter eggs may just go over their heads.

Cons

Although the Rick and Morty Monopoly edition can sound appealing, possibly the biggest downside of all is that the price tag on the Rick and Morty Monopoly edition can be quite brutal. At $57.20, this may be one of the heftiest games in any Monopoly fan’s collection – but not without good reason as Rick and Morty fans will be sure to love its trademarked design.

This is also a game for older players, with the minimum recommended age at 17. Unfortunately, this means you probably can’t keep the little kids occupied with Rick and Morty Monopoly, although older teenagers may have more of an appreciation for it. It is also unlikely that younger children may understand all the references in the game, so if you are looking to play this with a younger audience, you may want to look at another themed Monopoly edition.

The Monopoly game also has a fairly long playtime of more than 60 minutes each round. As such, this may not be suitable for when you just want a quick game to complete a stay-in night. If you are starting a round of Rick and Morty Monopoly, be prepared to set aside some time for a full game to conclude. One way to reduce the playtime of each round could be to give out properties from the start, instead of waiting for players to land on them to buy them.

Overall Review

In summary, we think that this Rick and Morty edition of Monopoly would be a great buy for any die-hard Rick and Morty fans. However, if you just want to enjoy a game of classic Monopoly, this may not be the best buy for you due to its price – the basic classic Monopoly may be better in that case. In fact, you can probably buy two other Monopoly games for the price of this Rick and Morty Monopoly.

If you love Rick and Morty though, you will probably be excited with the exquisitely crafted player tokens depicting iconic symbols throughout the TV show. Prepare to squabble with your opponents over who gets to be the phleeb!

There are also other official Rick and Morty themed board games, so if you would like to collect both those and Monopoly games, getting the Rick and Morty Monopoly edition would be effectively having a 2-in-1 for the price of a single game.

All in all, we think the Rick and Morty Monopoly edition will make a valuable addition to the dining table for anyone who loves this TV series. Even if it is a bit of an investment, it is worth every cent and a must-have for enthusiasts!
